2013 January Examination Information Sheet



For Parents/Guardians and Students 

Principal’s Message: Final exams for the first semester start January 24th, 2013. Exams and culminating activities are a key component of every course. They are not optional and there are no exemptions. Please read carefully so you are informed and aware of the events of the next couple of weeks. 

EXAM SCHEDULE 

Period 1 courses Thursday, January 24 
Period 2 courses Friday, January 25 
Period 3 courses Monday, January 28 
Period 4 courses Tuesday, January 29 

EXAM LENGTH 

Grade 9 exams 8:30am – 10:00am 
Grade 10 exams 8:30am – 10:00am 
Grade 11 exams 8:30am – 10:30am 
Grade 12 exams 8:30am – 11:00am 
Students must remain in the exam room until the last half hour of the assigned writing time. If they wish to leave early, this is the ONLY time they may do so. 

LEAVING TIMES 

Grade 9 & 10 exams 9:30 am or 10:00 am 
Grade 11 exams 10:00 am or 10:30 am 
Grade 12 exams 10:30 am or 11:00 am 

MAINTAINING A QUIET ENVIRONMENT 

Students are expected to leave the building within 10 minutes of leaving their exam room. They are to be quiet in the hallways out of respect for others who are still writing. Students who need to remain in the building longer than 10 minutes must report to the Cafeteria and study until they leave. Students are permitted in the cafeteria if waiting for a ride. 

UNIFORMS 

Students are expected to wear the school uniform on exam days. Exceptions are students who earned casual dress passes for the Lottery and graduating students who turn in uniform clothing to Room 112. This clothing needs to be clean and in good repair. 
Graduating students will be issued a uniform pass that must be presented when entering the exam room. Teachers will have a list of students who were granted casual dress passes for the Lottery. 

ACADEMIC HONESTY 

Honesty is important at all times and especially during exams. Please refer to the student handbook for our policy regarding cheating. Students are to bring their textbook(s) to the exam room and turn them in to their teacher prior to the start of the exam. 

Permitted 

Pens, pencils, erasers, rulers 
Calculators – with prior approval from the teacher 
Notes, reference materials – open book exams with prior approval from the teacher 

Prohibited 

Notes, reference materials 
Any electronic device (eg. cell phone, pager, iPod, etc.) or other item that can be used to communicate, store, share or retrieve information. 

Students found to be in possession of any of these materials in the exam room will be presumed to have them for the purpose of cheating. Teachers will direct them to Room 112. School administration will investigate the matter and make decisions according to school policy. 

MISSED EXAMS

All students missing an exam without a valid excuse will be assigned a grade of zero on the exam. In addition, the student will be placed on academic contract.
