The following letter will be going home today with students:
I am writing to you concerning the “hold and secure” that took place on May 6, 2014. A “hold and secure” is called when there is a threat, not normally related to the school, outside of the building. The school is under normal operation but external doors are secured limiting movement in and out of the building.
The event took place as a result of an isolated incident originating off of school grounds and was promptly ended. A “Hold and Secure” was called to control movement in and out of the building. All students and the Assumption school community were safe in the building. The diligent supervision and decisive action of the staff, and the cooperation of students, ensured that our building remained secure. Time was required for the Windsor Police Service to conduct their investigation resulting in the “hold and secure” remaining in effect for the duration of period 3, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Classes were under normal operation during this time period.
It has come to my attention that some students may have tweeted and texted some misinformation surrounding yesterday’s events. This is unfortunate as some of this misinformation could lead to unnecessary anxiety and fear. We will continue to educate toward the responsible use of these tools.
At Assumption we continue to be committed to providing your son or daughter with the best possible educational experience and school safety is an important part of that.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any concerns.
