Yesterday, The Raider Swim Team competed in the WECSSAA Championships.
The team was led by first year Sr Denise Bueno who put forth an inspired effort in lowering her previous best time by over 4 seconds and struck gold in the 100m Breaststroke. Denise also had a SWOSSAA qualifying best time in the 100m Backstroke and was part of the Open Medley relay team that hauled in a bronze medal. Joining Denise in winning the bronze were Sarah Chan, Lida Kojic and rookie sensation Riley Scoboria. Individually, Sarah also had two strong 5th place finishes, one in the 100m Free and the other in the 100m Breaststroke. Grade 11 Alexis Coxon swam well and made the finals in a highly competitive senior girls 100m Free.
In Junior Girls action, Christina Zhang had a great showing in two individual events (4th in 100IM and 5th in 50 Fly) and helped the Jr Girls Freestyle relay team to qualify for the finals. The other members of that relay team were Melody Salehi, Claire Sion, Melissa Berberi and Katie McAuley.
The standout for the boys team was Grade 10 student Robert Boronea. Robert finished 3rd in the Jr Boys 50 Fly, 6th in the 100 IM, 10th in the 50 Breaststroke and combined his talents with those of Michael Hogan, Stiv Berberi and Zac Kearley to capture a silver medal in the Jr Boys Freestyle Relay. Individually, Stiv was also a finalist, finishing 7th in the Jr Boys 50 Breaststroke.
Great Job Raiders!
